Man of Sorrows
Christ stands on a rock-like pedestal. His body is covered with bloody stigmata, his loins are veiled and covered by a white cloth. In his left hand he holds a scourge, one of the instruments of suffering (=arma christi) and a reference to the Passion. With his right hand, he points forward. He is looking up, pleading, with tears in his wide-open eyes. The whole scene symbolises the suffering and torment of Christ. The figure was made between 1680 and 1730.
