Mechanical nativity scene

Christmas nativity scenes have a long tradition in the Alpine countries. They are put up from the 24th of December to the 2nd of February. The various stages in the life of Christ can be used as motifs. In this 19th-century mechanical nativity scene from Upper Austria, Jesus is depicted as a small child, playing with Mary and Joseph.
