Monastery work
The roots of arts and crafts from monasteries go back to the Middle Ages when countless hours were spent there creating works of art entirely by hand.
The most commonly used materials were gold and silver wire, fabrics such as brocade, velvet, silk and parchment, wax, polished stones, beads and sequins - but mirrors, shells, dried grasses can be found, too. Sometimes even human hair was used, as in this exhibit, which was made to commemorate Josef Neumaier's first Mass in 1910.
