5. Frister & Rossmann
As soon as the American typewriter manufacturers ventured across the ocean, it became clear that the battle to survive on the market would be extremely difficult. Consider Frister & Rossmann who manufactured the first German type basket typewriter in Berlin in 1892 according to a patent by the American Caligraph. This typewriter was a model for export to Russia, as shown by the Cyrillic letters. On the one hand, this symbolises the global advance of the typewriter, on the other hand the fact that Frister & Rossmann soon had to give up production showed how difficult it was to establish the typewriter in Europe too.
