The American Blickensderfer, manufactured from 1893 onwards, was also sold in Europe with success. As the first efficient portable machine, it caused a stir at the World’s Fair in Chicago.

Despite the disadvantages of a typewheel machine and the uneven striking, the Blickensderfer was very successful. The choice of over 100 typewheels, lightness and low price made it a best seller. Manufacturing was, however, stopped when the inventor George Canfield Blickensderfer died.
