This Advent Madonna from Saalfelden dating back to the 1st half of the 18th century is still in its original case for the advent tradition of Frauentragen. Frautragen (translated as 'carrying the Lady') is a tradition in memory of the biblical search for shelter; the search is not embodied by people but an image or statue of the expectant Mary.
